'The Plot Thickens'

Just wanted to mention that The Fraenkel Gallery, one of the finest photography galleries in the country, in San Francisco, which has been publishing beautiful and quirky bespoke photobooks for a number of years, has a new one out. I haven't seen it yet, but all of the Fraenkel books I have seen (or own) are gems. The new one is called The Plot Thickens and commemorates the gallery's 35th year.

Fraenkel books—I gather they are all show catalogues—do most resemble curated photo shows, and often combine art photography with enigmatic and ambiguous "found" photographs in curious and interesting ways. They are often exquisitely designed, made, and printed. The two that I've liked best for their photographs are Seeing Things and 20Twenty, which were published to commemorate the gallery's 15th and 20th year respectively. That bodes well for The Plot Thickens.

I really love the photograph on the cover of Seeing Things . A found snapshot that both echoes and rivals Cartier-Bresson's more famous shot.
