In August, I'll be taking a well-deserved vacation with my frequent traveling companion Bayla Fine. The two of us will be in Paris on Monday, August 11. Yeah, one whole day in the City of Light. You take what you can get.
If some Parisian reader would like to organize a get-together with me for that evening, I'd be delighted to meet anyone who wants to come. I don't speak French, and can barely read it, so it will need to be an Anglophone gathering. (That shouldn't be a problem for anybody who can read this.) Any of you Parisians wish to volunteer to be the coordinator for this?
Now for the big question: if someone had one and only one full day in Paris, what would you suggest they do with it? Unfortunately I cannot magically exchange it for a week. It's one day or nothing. So, what should Bayla and I do with our day?

ADDENDUM: P.S. It never occurred to me that the most popular suggestion would be to spend all day just walking Paris. It's a great suggestion; unfortunately, it will be impossible! Bayla gets around with a cane and cannot walk more than a few hours a day and needs to stop frequently to sit down and rest.
In that vein, the Batobus sounds simply brill. —Ctein

"August is a good time to visit because most people are away on holidays, so Paris is relatively empty. My last day in Paris would probably be Notre-Dame, around the banks of the Ile de la Cite, and Latin Quarter, Le Marais, Montmatre, and the canals Saint-Martin. Photography wise, I'd pack light to keep yourself mobile during the day. If you've got one day and you're going to be walking a lot, carrying water is probably more useful than a tripod. Enjoy your day in Paris!"
